I love The Common Press – the range of events held here are disparate, radical, even a little bizarre. While technically a bookshop, it\u2019s also a wonderful queer space located – ideally, selfishly – close to my house in East London. Great coffee, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Category Is: A cute little queer bookshop in the south side of the city that has real community hub vibes and a selection of LGBTQ books you wouldn\u2019t find in your average bookstore – erotica, sci-fi, horror, among other fare, and a pay-it-forward scheme where you can buy a book for someone else and leave it on a shelf’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good Press: A workers cooperative in Merchant City which is a bookshop, events and gallery space, which also features a risograph printer and open-access bookmaking studio called Sunday Print Service. They host wonderful local literary events and feature independent small press or self-published books, chapbooks and literature you\u2019d be hard-pressed to find in a major bookstore with the aim of supporting people independently representing themselves and their communities through the publications. All directors and non-member staff are paid equally by the hour at the Living Wage, and authors who consign their works at the press have the option of receiving their monies or donating it to the cause of keeping Good Press up and running. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
